Having a clear and well defined strategy and being able to successfully execute that strategy are the true keys to winning this draft.

I know of one team without any of those big 4 SP that still plans on competing for this thing.

It's why I've already started prepping for the next one of these. Redemption Baby! I might even pass on the NFBC Main Event just to do these all year long until I get one right.

having walsh and a couple others is a monster advantage. could it be overcome? doubtful. as my buddy texted me, most of us (non Walsh/Johnson/Mathewson/Alexander owners) are just arranging deck chairs on the titanic. The success of any given strategy in this draft is partially determined by what

other teams are doing. If you decided to go pitcher heavy in an effort to crush pitching all around it will be most successful if other teams are attempting to do a similar thing and you simply do it better ( perhaps because you got a Walsh etc..). However, if teams are concentrating on certain categories only it may become tougher to get near 55 or 60 points. It is unlikely you can overcome teams trying to specialize in specific stats.

Also, as Shawn pointed out previously, if you go pitching heavy early you will certainly suffer in hitting. It may turn out going with a top pitcher gives you the best chance to win but I'm not convinced yet. I certainly don't believe it gives you the insurmountable edge that some drafters seem to think it does. If we were betting I would still take the field over the teams receiving the top 4 sp. I guess we will know in 2-3 weeks though.

Dang.... I kinda figured Willie would go before I had a chance! Had the hardest time deciding which year I liked best-- several w/ great BA, several w/ great power/speed combos, several w/ great HR, and several w/ great R/RBI. I had 1955 ranked just a tiny bit ahead of 1962, but both were great great years.

By the way, my favorite line of the past few days: "I knew I was in trouble when Bob Gibson went in the first round." Classic! Though I wasn't really looking to go with a 2nd outfielder at this point, I just couldn't stare at this one player's total in a specific category of need for my squad any longer. His total in that one category is the highest remaining on the board and the 12th highest single season total in history. He provides a small boost for me as well in BA and runs and gives me my fifth consecutive (visible) player with 40+ home runs. However it is that one category that compels me to make this pick. That category......RBI's. That player.....
