it looks like this draft is turning into a "punting" contest: sb, avg, wins, K's, etc...

When we look at HR totals, somehow 50 doesn’t really seem like that much. In fact, since 1990 there has been twenty-four 50+ HR seasons, a little over 1 per year. 50 HR’s almost seems common place. The truth is though, that just 26 men have hit 50 dingers or more in a season over the course of baseball history.
Since Ruth first did it in 1920, the driest spell for the 50 homer barrier was from 1965 to 1989, a 24 year period during which a 50 home run season only happened once.
On Sept 20, 1977 George Foster hit a Bob Owchinco first inning offering deep into the San Diego night to become the first man to hit 50 homers since Willie Mays in 1965.
I will take the 1977 NL MVP, George Foster
HR-52
R-124
RBI-149
SB-6
BA-.320

George Foster's another player that should have been pictured in his Mets uniform to acknowledge his true glory days.
I hope everyone's noticed all the players that have been chosen already that owe their fame to their time with baseball's greatest franchise.....our New York Mets.
Besides Mays & Foster who were recently mentioned, we have Gooden, Seaver, Wright, Piazza, Pedro, Rickey, Alomar, Kent, KRod, Putz, the Duke, Yogi, Koufax (coach), Gibson (coach), Chipper (son named after Shea), Jackie (Citifield's rotunda) and countless others.
I think this leaves little doubt who is America's team.

In other words, the New York Mets is where great players go to die!

We are approaching our second blind round. Are we ok with how it went in the first one or do we want to use Todd's suggestion?

Somebody asked if this draft was fast or slow compared to a 'real draft'....
Our 50 Round Draft started two days before this draft.
It is a rather fast paced draft through e-mail.
We are finishing up the 17th round as we speak.

We are finishing up the 17th round as we speak. I think the difference between this draft and other slow drafts I've been a part of is that in other drafts there's always a period each night where everyone's online and a round or two get knocked out. Haven't seen that here yet.

E-mail is quicker also, Glenn.
With new tech, it's just easier and more accessible by e-mail. You guys are doing a service to Message Board viewers, and it is much appreciated by having the draft here, at the same time it loses pace.

Actually you shorted Joe a couple of points, he hit .408! He also slugged .590 (only Nap Lajoie and Ty Cobb had slugged higher in a season since 1900 at that time). Of course he didn't win the batting title, since that was the same year Cobb hit .420, but all-in-all a nice rookie year.

Garciaparra is on the board Nomar! 1998. Mia too.

And puhleeese, feel free to nag the Hall of Fame about getting Joe Jackson in the Hall of Fame.
I have for the last umpteen years.
If you'd like to write a letter on behalf of Joe Jackson, I have the addresses for both the Hall of Fame and Baseball writers Association of America.
I return you to your regularly scheduled show.

I'll be sending Dan enough blinds to get me through, though we likely won't get to it until the morning.

Blind Round-
Make sure you guys, especially near the end of the round, have more than one player in mind.
I'll be answering the door for trick or treaters, but am here if we start tonight.
Lists are welcome.
