Gehrig with 353 and Hornsby with 300 were the closest to the Babe.

By the way, in his debut in 1914, Ruth was called back to the dugout for a pinch hitter. Upon coming back to the dugout, Ruth said" Y'Know, I can hit a little too."

The Manager sarcasticed him, (yeah spellchecker, another made up word. (Spellcheckers have ZERO imagination!) "Yeah kid, every pitcher can!"

Gehrig was the first player, post 1900, to hit four homers in a game.

Not very interesting, the record has been tied several times since.

This is of more interest.

Art Shamsky pinch hit a homer in the eighth inning of a game. He stayed in the game and hit two more homers in extra innings, making him the only hitter not to start a game and hit three homers.

Two days later, in his next at bat, Shamsky pinch hit another homer.

Four straight homers without a start.

Who was talking about achievments that'll never be topped?

Alright, just to show how dead the dead ball era was...

Ty Cobb, who played mostly in the dead ball era, would end his career with 117 home runs.

49 of them were inside-the-park homers.

Frank 'Home Run' Baker got his nickname after hitting two homers, over the fence in the 1911 World Series. Two.

Well with only the three blind rounds completed thus far and four more picks until the end of this draft to move up the standings, time is running out on me to make a move. Considering my current place in the standings, playing it safe won't get me anywhere I want to be. It's time for drastic action in a desperate attempt to try to get within striking range. I need to make plays to make drastic leaps up the categories I'm lacking in.....even at the risk of other categories. My first attempt at these Hail Mary's will give me a player who will provide the most counting stats in this one category of any player for a season taken in this draft. Bomb's away!!! The category.....stolen bases. That player.......

BA - .306 This season was actually toward the end of Brocks career. It might not seem like a big deal now because players stay in better shape, but Brock was 35yo during the '74 season.

Prior to Brock, the most bases stolen by someone 35 or older was 52 by Maury Wills. Brock more than doubled that total

I've always thought this guy was HOF material.

Porter did have very good career numbers. I was to young to watch him play but I looked at his stats when looking at catchers and they are impressive.

I actually thought he was the best catcher left but at this point I am needed to keep my batting average where it is. I wish I had went a different direction earlier in the draft but at this point no sense in changing things around. Nice pick.
