% owned/ % start......HUH??

Post by Ed Mick » Mon Apr 04, 2005 4:39 pm

I don't understand this at all.

In the first place, since there are 20 leagues, how do you get numbers like "90.9%" or 92.6%?"

In the second place, the numbers themselves look a bit absurd. Just looking at my roster, it says that Jim Thome is owned in 94.9% of the leagues.

Could someone please tell me in which league no one drafted Jim Thome?!

Other numbers include 50% ownership for Omar Infante, which seems rather low as well.

Can someone explain these numbers to me?

Ed

The numbers are obviously from Stats database which includes leagues from CBS sportsline etc, where 10-12 idiots get together to draft a league. Everyone in NFBC knows Thome is on someone's team.

Well, I think they mean all drafts run by STATS, Inc. or something rather than just the NFBC. That said, I still can't imagine what kind of league is skipping out on Thome, wherever it is. Maybe they have leagues where the purpose is to do worst or something. I'm in one like that.

I doubt it's all STATS leagues, since I'm sure a fair percentage of them are either AL or NL only so you could never get a number over 90%.

Maybe it's all 15-team STATS mixed leagues. Who knows? I'd rather they put up nothing than numbers like this with no benchmark or meaningful definitions.

Greg ... Can we get some kin of clarification on these % numbers. They just DON'T make any sense for NFBC league at all.

I too would rather have nothing... than these numbers that makes NFBC stats of % owned look BOGUS.

Thanks

I'll look into this, but it appears to be no different than what Sportsline.com and ESPN.com do. I would assume it's all of the leagues that STATS services, which includes SI.com and some salary cap leagues like SportsBuff.com. In those salary cap games, it's probably common for Thome not to be drafted, but you are correct that that information isn't valuable to NFBC members. I'll get a more definitive answer as that's just my guess for today.

If more is bad, we'll figure it out and see if STATS can make it just for NFBC data. I'm not sure they can, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

See, these guys at STATS are great. They are listening to our requests.

From STATS: "It is using all leagues STATS runs. We have it on our list to change that to just NFBC leagues. It should be updated today."
