Hey Greg and Tom!
I'm not really planning on doing this...but wondered if it was a legal move.
Say I am unhappy with my slumping 2nd Catcher, and wanted to look second half, and stock my bench with a few minor league studs. Could I bench my 2nd C (only starting 1 Catcher, but having 2 on my team...one on bench)...and fill my bench with minor leaguers and that catcher...making my "Bench" appear to be 8 deep.
I succeeded in benching my 2nd catcher as a test...thus showing 8 players on my bech...yet still staying in the rules by having a 30 man roster.
I may have worded this poorly, but you get the drift.
One step further...could I drop that catcher from my bench to free agency...thus sacrificing a starter for added bench depth?

I believe this would result in an illegal lineup, which would result in no stats for your team.

~Lance Good luck on winning now that you forfeited your stats for a week.
BTW, the pragmatic way to do this would have been to play an inactive cather in the catching slot.

~Lance No, you must have a legal 23-man roster, which would include two catchers. Trust me, we've all wanted to start just one catcher at some point during our fantasy careers, but the rules are what they are. If you tried this, STATS would recognize this as an illegal lineup and that second catcher would automatically be put in as a starter to make your lineup legal. If you tried to cut a catcher to pick up another position player and thus made your lineup illegal again, that move would not be allowed to keep your lineup legal.
Blame Daniel Okrent for making us start two catchers!!
But honestly, if we're going to simulate what the big leagues do, we obviously need two catchers per team. Good luck Lance the rest of the way.
