Time it takes to draft!

Post by Edwards Kings » Tue Feb 20, 2007 12:12 am

Someone asked me a question on a PM and for the life of me I cannot recall (maybe because I am having too much fun) despite the fact this will be my fourth year. For the Main Event drafts, how long does it usually take...is four to five hours about right?
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Time it takes to draft!

I'd like for the draft to take about 5 hours, but I seem to always get stuck with the group that wants to rush and get out of there in 3...wouldn't want to relax and take 5 hours when you pay $ 1,300 to play...gotta rush

I volunteer to be in a draft group that wants to go slow and enjoy the draft

I think most drafts run 4 hours. Some will be faster (say 3 to 3.5 hours) and others will be slower (4.5 - 5 hours). It really depends on how prepared the drafters are and how fast the sticker guy is. After a player is drafted the next team is not on the clock until the sticker guy finds the sticker and starts to put it up.

That said, I've also been in a draft where the sticker guy is several picks behind and the clock guy is pushing hard to get done early. Honestly, I don't like to be rushed either. I want my $1300 worth of fun.
OK - So I'm not as good as I thought I was; but at least I am consistent.

Most leagues get done in 4.5 hours. In Vegas, we usually have most leagues done by 2:30 or so.

Just let everyone know that we start EXACTLY at 1 p.m. EST, 12 p.m. CST and 10 a.m. PST for the main event. WE WAIT FOR NO ONE!!! So be ready for 4+ hours of fun as Draft Day should be Christmas Day for all die-hard baseball fans.
