All RP Strategy
How are the teams who made use of the all RP strategy making out? updates?
All RP Strategy
Reporting from NY7 where this topic came to the forefront after the draft, nothing dramatic is happening. One team drafted alot of "potential closers" amongst regular closers and up to now that strategy has failed them. They are sitting in the 12 slot as of today.
The other team "crazytown.gov" went with the all reliever and bogus staff (injured, retired or double A pitchers so they would have no stats). They lanquished in the 15th place for quite some time. Presently they have moved up to 9th place as their bats have started to produce somewhat (31 league points in hitting categories). To compete they are going to have to hit a heckuva lot more.
They have racked up the following points pitching:
15 ERA
4 Wins
15 WHIP
1 K's
5.5 Saves
40 Total
That kind of production in the save category will not cut it, especially if you are not an offensive powerhouse.
We still have 3 1/2 months to go, but at this stage, THIS STRATEGY IS NOT A WINNER.

In AL only and NL only, the closer only seems to work better than the mixed draft leagues. I utilized the closer only in the 650 AL auction and currently 2nd, 2 pts off. The NFBC challenge has been a a donation!

You should not judge the strategy by poor attempts to use it.
The all reliever strategy if done correctly should absolutely guarantee placing if not winning a league. It has virtually no chance of winning the overall competition however.

It was an OPINION, not judgement. IMHO, the closer strategy seems to work better in auctions, then in straight drafts.

NO STRATEGY "guarantees winning or placing" in a league. Just the injury factor alone can eliminate any team, anytime.

The class A pitchers and closers strategy worked well for me in the NL auction league as far as pitching points, my problem was blowing my extra offense money running the bid up on Bonds. I'm floating between 2nd and 5th in a very tight league even with Bonds, Dave Roberts and Jose Cruz being out all or most of the first half. I'm sure next year there will be more people try some form of reduced innings pitching staffs and that will reduce it's effectiveness.

Gekko
In our league (LV1)--Hankerchiefs went the RP route. He's currently third with 90, a good bit behind since 126 and 113 are the 1st and 2nd totals. He's at 50 pts Batting, 40 Pitching.
He's done it with Lowell,Edmonds, Vlad, Roberts, Larry Walker, Holiday, and Rowland. Between injuires and fast and slow starts he's not in bad shape and if these guys can can stay off the DL and produce their usual numbers he could be tough.
It appears he's also Punted CA-- with Todd Greene and Matheny doing his backstopping.
