If the team drafting first in round 29 makes a selection that causes them to have an invalid lineup, e.g. only one catcher qualified player, my guess is that no less than 10 teams will yell at once. Will the draft go into a short pause while that team makes a valid selction or, better yet, will the player they select be placed back into the draft pool and the dumb-dumb team will be religated to the first and only pick in round 30 as a penalty for their ineptitude. Given that the rest of the league will likely point out the error of their ways, the other 14 teams should not be prevented from selecting that player that the first team "illegally" selected.

Kevin, it's the other way around in Las Vegas. We have two NL spots open and three AL spots. I think we'll get there as those crazy Leaderboard Sports guys have all kinds of money!! I'll talk Dyv into buying another team and bidding against himself. That will be worth the price of admission alone. Gordon has a little Sybil in him, don't you think? Maybe he can buy two teams and bid against himself.

Hey, I'm giving out Pete Rose autographed baseballs. I can't buy them rooms and dancing girls, too. If someone wants to play badly enough, they will. We'll get those last five guys and hopefully we'll get a lot more NFBC guys, too. It's the final week and a lot of people are waiting to make sure KP is going through with this (ah, have no fear, we are) and to save money until the last minute. Hang tight and we'll fill those Auction Leagues in Vegas and New York.

Viper, once we horse-tie and whip that owner for making an invalid pick, we'll make him pick again in 15 seconds or move on and let him pick after the next guy goes. We certainly aren't going to back track all the way back to him and give him a mulligan. We'll act as soon as we can and make this right.

Seriously, anyone who waits until the 29th round for their second catcher or final middle infielder is crazy. They can do it, but at least 10 guys will see one pink sticker on the board (I think the catchers are pink!) and know that he needs a catcher in this round. So this shouldn't be as secretive as everyone is pointing out. But yes, fellow owners should scream this out.

The existing "position eligibility" link ONLY has players who were active last year with 20+ games. Late callups, rookies and Japanese players are pretty much missing. When will the final version of the position eligibility list be made available to the participants

But what color will guys like Craig Wilson have? He is one of eight players qualified at three poistions. A nice rainbow effect could work.

I previously listed all players who didn't play at least 20 games at any position last year and where they would qualify on the Message Boards. I'll grab those again. My goal is to create a position eligibility list for everyone to pick up at Registration on Draft Day. I noticed some new ones this weekend at LABR as Bubba Trammell only qualifies at Utility and Bill Hall qualifies at second base and shortstop (18 games at each). So I'll update that and get everyone a list when you register in each of the three cities.

I didn't look at those multiple player stickers, but I think they are on each position they qualify at. They sure better be. I'll let Jeff Peters answer that later or I'll go look at the stickers when I'm done here. We have a draft board up here and we're doing a mock draft here for everyone to see tomorrow. Anyone want to participate? Nah, just kidding.

Greg,

Did Thome go at a big discount, or was the general attitude that he'd be back in time?

Tom K. called me today to see if I had any questions regarding the draft. I just want to say that I appreciated that!

I'll buy some beer on Friday night and even one after the draft, but come Saturday night none of you will be able to find me. I am riding off into the Strip sunset and disappearing for a few hours to be alone at a blackjack table. For a few hours, I'm not going to be seen by anyone wearing a baseball cap or even think about the NFBC. But that's only if everything goes well, which in my mind is no problem. I've thought of every possible scenario for the last three months and hopefully I have an answer for everything. If not, I'll make it up on the fly.

Thome was interesting because he just got hurt the day before the draft. But he went for $33, so nobody was concerned about it. He should be back in time to put up BIG numbers.

it would be nice if you re-posted the old list on eligibility for the Matsui's and Mauer's of the world.

Tom is calling all of the Chicago people today to introduce himself and make sure we're all on the same page. Rocky is doing the same thing with all of the New York people. Both guys will likely help me call all of the Las Vegas folks tomorrow. Our goal is simple: We want to introduce ourselves to everyone and make sure you know who is taking care of you in each city. Secondly, we don't want any surprises so you can call me or either of those guys at any time during the next week to make sure you totally understand the rules and the draft process. If we take care of everything beforehand, it will make life on March 19-20 a whole lot easier. So that's the plan.

I will find that post and post it again. Mauer is a catcher and Matsui is a shortstop, no questions asked.

Rocky drinks and he doesn't handle it well, so go easy on him or that credit card will be flying out of his pocket. Unfortunately, he's on the same budget as I am, so we're buying cheap beer. ;) ;) You'll like the guys who are running New York and Chicago and we'll all be like a big family, which means we'll fight a lot.

Do all 23 position requirements have to be filled with the first 23 picks or can the six reserve players be drafted at any time during the 29 rounds?

Okay, I have to go pick up two youngsters from school. Thanks for the questions and we'll do it again tomorrow at 3 p.m. EST (is that better Gordon?). I'll be working late again tonight and if we have a large group on the Message Boards at that time, I'll jump in and create a new live chat thread. Thanks everyone and say good things about the NFBC as we still have room for more signups in each city.

You do not have to fill your 23 starting spots with your first 23 picks. That is very important in the NFBC as it allows you flexibility to manage your team better on Draft Day. Hope that helps.

Hopefully 5 full leagues in New York, but we'll see what this last week signup crunch ends up. I'd love to shoot for 6.
