League Parity

In Chicago League 4, there are no teams in the top 50 but the competition within the league has been simply incredible for the entire season. There is still no clear cut dominant team and any of the top 11 teams can still lay their head on the pillow at night and have dreams of $5k. Here is how the standings are through last night's games:

NFBC PTS

fantasyjungle.com 99

Slumpbusters 98

Razor Shines Last Fan 97

Superpions 94

The Statisticals 92.5

420 Feet Away 88

Dante's Screamers 88

Minute Men 87

Keeneland 84

The Wood Shed 80

Omega's Pancakes n Fries 79.5

It has really been this nip and tuck throughout the season. Teams have gotten above the 100 pt watermark but have not stayed there for very long. Have any of the other leagues, this year or last, experienced this kind of depth of competition within one single league?

I would enjoy running away with this thing as much as the next guy but from the standpoint of having active free agent bidding and limited dead money, this is about as good as it gets.

As the 300th team overall, a member of CHI4, and holding over $400 in FAAB (more then the top four teams in Chi4 combined) I feel that it is my duty (along with the two other teams not listed in the top 11, with even more FAAB) to stay active and buy all the quality Free Agents.

However, there are some ethical issues. Should I throw saves (as I am only one back of Razor in Wins)? To throw saves I would waive Billy Wagner.

What about waiving Corey Patterson, who I took in the fifth round? How can I be forced to keep a guy in the minors (FA in one league)? Or maybe Oliver Perez? How can I be forced to keep a 6 plus ERA (on th DL)? Nomar? He is still on the DL (today). What about 4.56 Jason Schmidt (Ranked 191)? His 4.56 is equal to 280th overall team in ERA. His 1.47 whip (like my team whip) is 299th overall. Curveless Adam Eaton (Ranked 205)coming off the DL?

The answer is that waiving any on these players MAY give the fifth place team ($258 FAAB) an advantage. I believe the only players that I should not be allowed to waive are Manny (ranked 13)and Andy Jones (ranked 21). However, I also believe that waiving any of the others listed above may effect the outcome of Chi4 and is unethical.

Chi4 even without any teams in the top 50 along with the worst team is still 7th overall. Glad someone has a shot at some $.

It's a fair question... I think the decision would likely be you can waive anyone you want but they would not then make it to the free agent pool. They would simply NOT be available in your league. One would have to question whether you were making the moves to move up in the rankings or whether there was something else going on. That's what the commish has to review... Greg and Tom know fantasy games and fantasy baseball.

As for league parity, Las Vegas #7's top 5 looks like this:

Doughboys 136

LB Fortress Dyv 113

Wiseguy Baseball 100.5

Coyotes 91

BigWill's Bombers 90

I'm stuck between 'wow I have 113 pts.' and 'wow I'm 23 pts. out of first!'

And I'd have gotten away with it, too if it wasn't for those pesky Doughboys! DO NOT POKE HIM!

Keep it simple do whatever it takes to field what you see is the best possible team every week. That is your job- It is Greg's job to determine whether those players if waived should be let back in to the pool.

H2H,

I would say do what you have to to try and win a week. The upperdeck prizes are pretty cool, and would serve as a nice momento for the season. Hence I'd hold onto Wagner, but if you want to cut Patterson then I think you should be allowed (I also took that sally in the 5th, what a bust!), Try and win a week, that is what I say. Good Luck!

Play to win. Remember, you can cut anyone you want to better your team. If I feel the player you cut is too good for the open pool, I will put him in limbo in your league only. So don't worry about your cuts, just better your team. And I agree, play for the weekly prize now.

As for Corey Patterson, if you cut him he will be allowed in the free agent pool. That's for sure.

I agree with all your suggestions. I was just whinning about all the stiffs on my roster. Viper on another thread asked about dead teams. I have to admit that I have not been on NFBC website for over a week at a time once I was eliminated from any money consideration. However, I feel that if I (everyone)owe those in the hunt for the overall championship an honest attempt to acquire (and keep others in my league from acquiring)the best available players. I was hoping that my rant would keep others active - and honest. Parity is a good thing.

Never Give Up.....No matter what!!!! If you paid 100%, then you need to have played a 100%. Anything less, is just quitting.
