I really struggled with 14-4, and I'd welcome some feedback on my pick: Scott Olsen.

My logic: he's got the highest K/9 ratio (along with a decent ERA/WHIP) of any healthy starter (150+ IP) still available. But is 14th round a reach? Would he have made it to pick 15-12? My other choice would have been an outfielder, as I've only got 3 right now (Abreu/Berkman/Pierre). Olsen becomes my third starter after Halladay/Kazmir.

Reaction?

I think Olsen should go here. He's not money in the bank but non are at this point. I usually don't like softmore players, but he was good last year and has talent. The better pitchers have already been taken. I don't know how other drafts will go. The way this is going says he belongs right where you took him. he certainly was coming up on my list along with a few others like him.

my 2 cents ( from a guy whose total fantasy baseball experience is 1 satelite last year and 5 years in a nl only auction league) is: there are many returning rookie pitchers and hitters. i really do think the many sophmores regress. i had both webb and duke as cheap rookies and they both regressed mightily there second years. i expect many of these will. weaver and hamels will go higher than the rest. i was thinking of olsen in this round- and since probably 10-15 pitchers will be taken between now and my 15th round pick- i would have definately taken olsen in 15th round. with so many young pitchers doing well- you will find 3 different fantasy players- grab as many as i can, stay away, or look for 1 or 2 to round out my staff. i look at his #'s and say he is a good pitcher- and will be for awhile. any thoughts from the more experienced players?

Scott Olson. It is a good pick. I was thinking about going with Olson before Millwood. The sophmore jinx. I guess its to see if the hitters figure them out in their second year. I know he pitched very well over the last two months of the season.

I like the Olsen pick- he would have been my pick if he would have gotten to me. Not a big Millwood guy-

Not exactly a Millwood fan either - but we're talking 14th rd and just about 200 players gone. Believe 15 wins, 200 innings, 160 k, and 1.25 whip is not bad at this point - and probably a "safer" pick than what is left. Wish he was out of Texas tho.

Millwood has really solidified into a great player to lock into your rotation. Solid and at times spectacular. His ballpark is an issue as his ERA was better than 1.5 runs lower on the road with a road WHIP under 1.2.

He did not have much luck last year. The games I watched, it appeared to me he gave up a lot of runs in the last inning he was put out there (i.e. could they have overused him a bit). I know that if a pitcher gives up four runs or more, there should be little expectation of getting a win, but you would think your team would give you extra support sometimes and you might get lucky a time or two during the year. Millwood gave up 4+ eleven times last year and was 0-9 with two ND.

So, two thirds of his games (home or road) were where he gave up three runs or less. His record in those games was 16-3 with four ND. You would of course expect him to win most of those, but given he is still in his prime, has survived (16 W and 157 K) in Texas, and is giving quality starts in two-thirds of his games, I think he is a good value pick here. Not too risky.

Appreciate the insight.

I figure Tampa will simply have a Gladiator-like competition among Upton, Longoria, Wiggington, maybe Joel Guzman, and the last man standing gets the gig.
