So, looking into the Magic Eight Ball for 2012, how many AB are you targeting (if I may be so bold to ask)? I don't believe in targeting a particular number, I believe in trying to get as many as you possibly can.

So maybe the answer is THE MOST IN MY LEAGUE.
Yup. Did that in 2011 and Lindy still had more runs (21) and RBI's (31). He was fourth in AB and I had 157 more than him. Oh, well, sometimes you just can't beat quality. :D
betcha he had more top of the order guys from high scoring teams
You would think so, but not really. For example, three of his top four runs scored producers were from the top fours spots on their respective rosters as were three of four of mine. His top four runs producers were from the Yanks (#2 in MLB), the Rays (#15), the Indians (#16), and the Dodgers (#21). Mine were Boston (#1), Detroit (#4), Milwaukee (#11) and Philly (#13).

So actually mine were from the heavier runs producing teams and the numbers were similar for RBI, at least at the top of the rosters.

The difference, besides Lindy being smarter and a better in-season manager than me, was Curtis Granderson. Though Kemp, Asdrubal, and B.J. Upton helped, it really was Granderson that put him over the top in those two categories.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Let us have it.... There is a second NFBC style draft going on right now where I think we can show the first round results to keep the talk going. Compare these results to the ones above and let's see if we can find some common ground for the first round:
I find it interesting that Longoria keeps sticking around in the First Round again for 2012! I think it was Todd Z who pointed out the fact that Longoria has never produced first round numbers and has only finished as high as 30th (back end of 2nd Round) in production once!

I would much rather have either Kershaw or Cargo at the tail end of the first round than Longoria in 2012, just my opinion! I throw them out there because they both showed up once in the 1st round, and Longoria was in both.

Just thought I'd bring this thread back up to the top so that those that started drafting yesterday can compare or comment...
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Nice timing Dan. I was just going to create a thread to analyze the first round. I'd like to go in depth on the first round with some analysis for my next Rotowire column and looking at the first round of our most recently Slow Drafts has been interesting. Here's a look:

League 1:
Kemp

Cabrera
Tulowitzki
Ellsbury
A.Gonzalez
Cano
Bautista
Kershaw
Votto
Verlander
Upton
C.Gonzalez
Fielder
Longoria

League 2:
Pujols
Bautista
Kemp
Cabrera
Tulowitzki
A.Gonzalez
Cano
Ellsbury
Votto
Fielder
C.Gonzalez
Granderson
Longoria
Upton
Pedroia

League 3:
Pujols
Kemp
Ellsbury
Cabrera
Cano
Tulowitzki
A.Gonzalez
Votto
Bautista
C.Gonzalez
Upton
Longoria
Pedroia
Fielder
Kinsler

League 4:
Pujols
Kemp
Cabrera
Tulowitzki
Ellsbury
A.Gonzalez
Cano
Bautista
Votto
Granderson
C.Gonzalez
Upton
Fielder
Longoria
Pedroia

Any thoughts before I dive in?

League 1 is really out there with two SP drafted while the other three correctly have none

Agree with Todd on getting Cabrera at 1.03 or 1.04 (even lower in some leagues)

While I know Tulo might justify the pick I think the smart bet is he will miss some time again next season

The CarGo rebound hopefuls are still reaching - especially when he has to change fields next year

I am in league 1 and it is rediculous how early pitchers are going. I refused to draft one in the first 4 rounds and I am stuck with James Shields as my best choice in round 5. Unreal

I admit, I am one of those mooks (ok, maybe not so young as to be classified a mook) who would love me some CarGo. That wrist injury really held him back especially during August when he hit in 17 of 18 games to end the month batting something sick like .408 with 8 dingers, 26 RBI's and 18 runs scored. Of course, you never know if the teams are telling you the truth, but the injury appears to be no more than a deep bone bruise and some inflammation. I am sorry he appears to be climbing the boards because he is a steal late first, early second.

Oh well, I will just have to settle for Justin Upton if I am drafting out of the back-end of the first round!

i think the last data points we have for CarGo are from Sept (not August). the Sept swoon of 13K's in 42 at bats (translated to a .238 avg) shows he was a hurt'n unit. i'm sure that is what everyone is looking for out of their 1st or early 2nd rounder

STRONG BUY! :D
