Praying for Rain

Post by Raskol » Thu May 10, 2012 2:26 pm

As a loyal Colby Lewis owner, I went to lunch confident that he could handle the Orioles until I returned. 19 pitches later, he has served up three straight HRs to the first three batters he faced.

Now I turn my attention to the weather and start praying for rain so that these stats don't count. Of course, I really need the two Ks he managed thus far, so there is no good solution for me. Maybe he'll toss a CG, 15K "gem"?

Rangers starter Colby Lewis today became the first pitcher to ever allow at least five homers and also strike out at least 10 hitters in a start. In addition, he became the second pitcher, joining the Rangers Charlie Hough (who did it in 1989) to allow all five of his hits in a game to be homers while pitching at least 6 IP.

In that game, Hough also had the second most (now behind Lewis) K's (9) for any pitcher ever to give up 5+ dingers in a game. He threw 139 pitches over 7.2 innings. and took the loss against CLE 7-3. Homering that day for the Indians were Andy Allanson, Pete O'Brien, and 3 by Joe Carter.

Also playing in that game..............

Rookie Sammy Sosa for the Rangers, playing in just his 8th career game. He went 4 for 5.

Julio Franco........ he was 30 back then :o

Jim Sundberg was in his last season

Rain was the only hope Josh 'Tiger Woods' Beckett had tonight. Woeful performance against the Indians.
