I've got to go in the next hour and don't want to leave you guys hanging all night.
So, a couple of hints....

7. Intentional walk, my ass!- centers on an event rather than a pitchers thought process...

17. The God- I knew this would be tough. It was a sometimes nickname for this player....
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Dan - you never said it HAD to be a player correct? If so I think I know it but will see if anyone else can get it with that clue.
Guess would have been umpire Doug Harvey whose voice earned him the nickname The God.

I remember driving on Cape Cod during an HoF induction ceremony when they were talking about that.

Ty Cobb, Rod Carew and dang -- there was another -- in the 20's -- was going for a HR or batting title. I'll think of it.

I thought you were thinking, Bob Sheppard the Yankees longtime P.A. guy. But I don't think he's in the Hall (yet)

I don't want to look it up, but there is a name I remember from when we did the All-Time draft that might be the intentional walk -- if this isn't it I'm out and will let someone else guess..

I'm going to make a guess at The God one, even though I bet it's wrong.... Jesus Alou.

Didn't that Kelly Leake kid swing at an intentional walk pitch in The Bad News Bears. Obviously that's not the answer, but I seem to recall a hitter swinging at an intentional ball a few years back and getting a hit similar to the Kelly Leake scene. I just can't recall who. Damn Alzeimers.

The answer was Rod 'The God' Carew

I have to leave in 10 minutes and will give the answer then if somebody does not get it.
I'm also working on a list for tomorrow. These are almost as much fun for me to come up with as it is for you to guess :D

Was curious so after I answered I did Google and this is the guy I was remembering. In 1929 he was walked 5 times so Chuck Klein would win the HR title but he never swung - I just remember reading the story when doing the All Time draft.

I think I have it - the player wasn't an Athletic but the pitcher that faked him out was.

I say we bench anyone that can't point their finger at the answer.

Ha!
Have to go.
The answer as Todd and I'm sure others knew was Johnny Bench, being faked out by Dick Williams and Rollie Fingers.
Google '72 world series to see it.

When I was 16 playing Town Ball, there was a manager that would do this incessantly - we obviously called him Dick Williams.

Whenever the catcher "assumed the position", we would all yell, "careful, you don't want to be benched" to the batter.

I want to add a random one to this list, even though it's not a hall of famer.

This was fun. I'm down in Florida with the family on vacation. We were stuck in the rental house all morning and early afternoon due to tropical storm Andrea, before venturing out this afternoon. So taking a little timeout for baseball was good. If you do another list tomorrow I'm out; rain or shine....it's time to visit The Mouse. :D
