Dan - you never said it HAD to be a player correct? If so I think I know it but will see if anyone else can get it with that clue.

Guess would have been umpire Doug Harvey whose voice earned him the nickname The God.

I remember driving on Cape Cod during an HoF induction ceremony when they were talking about that.

Didn't that Kelly Leake kid swing at an intentional walk pitch in The Bad News Bears. Obviously that's not the answer, but I seem to recall a hitter swinging at an intentional ball a few years back and getting a hit similar to the Kelly Leake scene. I just can't recall who. Damn Alzeimers.

Was curious so after I answered I did Google and this is the guy I was remembering. In 1929 he was walked 5 times so Chuck Klein would win the HR title but he never swung - I just remember reading the story when doing the All Time draft.

This was fun. I'm down in Florida with the family on vacation. We were stuck in the rental house all morning and early afternoon due to tropical storm Andrea, before venturing out this afternoon.
