1. Anonymous thread
2. Pitchers and Catchers report
3. Fantasy Drafts
4. The season begins.
There is no other progression that would work without each of these components or it simply would not be NFBC Fantasy Baseball

Let the countdowns begin!!

It's right there for everyone to post their display name for the league, for the national standings, etc. It's automated to show up what the user has entered there.fwicker wrote:I understand the use of anonymous in relation to being googled and associated with online gaming (fantasy baseball), but I thought that within a draft I would know who I'm playing against? I thought I read that within the draft you would see the name of the owner, even though he's "anonymous" on the signup. I'm in a DC where even the owner listed on the league site has a bogus name.
Knowing who you're playing against can constitute an edge, albeit minor, if you have a history of playing in these leagues.
Is it possible to sign up for a league with the condition that I don't play against an "anonymous" owner?
We have been through this before: Some owners right now are using Anonymous for business purposes, for family reasons and yes to not showcase their every pick. If you think anyone under Anonymous has an advantage because of this, please avoid that league. We are filling these up one a day and we don't have a lot of Anonymous owners so far. I especially don't think anyone is going as Anonymous now to scout others' picks in December, so that's not a concern. As we get closer to March we'll ask people to show their names in those final drafts so that there isn't any perception of scouting others.
Again, STATS isn't hiding anything; everyone has the ability to put their Display Name into every signup. Good luck all and let's keep this great format rolling.
With all due respect the verbiage used (immediately) above can be misleading to a newcomer. What it should read is that anonymous will remain Anonymous until reaching the draft room where he'll use an alias, the only alias not allowed is the name Anonymous. We'll use ANONYMOUS again this year if requested and all owners can avoid those leagues or just meet the person first-hand once the online draft room opens up. All names are disclosed there.
I have done my duty. I've always been service oriented. The fantasy baseball season cannot progress without this thread!! We can now begin the countdown to pitchers and catchers reporting and then ultimately to opening day. That is the progression these days.

Don't forget to scramble and encrypt your nameplate.fwicker wrote:I have done my duty. I've always been service oriented. The fantasy baseball season cannot progress without this thread!! I'll be wearing sunglasses and a hoodie during the main event.
Have to admit though, the names you use when you enter the draft room are pretty funny...lolGekko wrote:See you guys on this thread next year!

Everyone is simply signed up as a number. When the first pitch flies then the owner names and team names appear. It makes it simple, it makes it fair, it makes it a non pain in the ass situation. No owners that think their picks are better have to worry about protecting themselves, and no owners have to worry about going up against such players. Everyone on even ground. Nobody knows who picked anyone. This should be implemented in all online drafts IMO.
I wonder if it's to late for this to be implemented? I think everyone would like this idea. In the DC drafts some like to share phone numbers so they would be revealed, but at least they'd know that going in.Gekko wrote:+1Cocktails and Dreams wrote:Someone mentioned a simple solution and easily the best solution. I do not like this suggestion, but for a totally unrelated reason. Because there are so few folks using the anonymous shield, I really do not care whether they are in one of my DC leagues or not. It truly makes no difference to me. I couldn't care less about other owners' picks or if they see mine. Importantly, however, if one or more owners that I know from past experience are really, really slow and/or inconsiderate were to join a league, I will try to avoid that league like the plague. I tend to like faster-paced drafts, although I can be very patient as long as owners generally try to be considerate and communicate. If there are folks who like to use all or most of their eight hours simply because it is "their time" and do not believe it is necessary to communicate to others about when they eventually may get around to making a selection, they certainly are entitled to participate in DC leagues, but I prefer to avoid those leagues. For this reason, I would not want all sign-ups to be annonymous. Also, I think knowing who you are drafting with sometimes helps to improve the chatroom discussions, and perhaps discourage some folks from becoming obnoxious under the cloak of annonymity.Cocktails and Dreams wrote:Someone mentioned a simple solution and easily the best solution. You would have no idea of who youre chatting with and that would take away a lot of the fun in my opinion. If people want to use anonymous for whatever reason, so be it.
