SOLD OUT: March 22 NY Primetime

Post by Glenneration X » Thu Feb 13, 2014 1:10 pm

I was just amazed to find out that I am the one and only entry to the Saturday night Primetime in NYC that follows the Main Event. When Greg and Tom informed me of that, my response was that they must surely be in jest. After all, how is that possible???

There is no way that out of the 4 or 5 or even 6 full 15-team Main Event leagues that will surely be drafting at the Midtown Hilton that day at 1pm, that a mere 11 other participants will not want to wind down from that stressful and demanding endeavor with a nice easy 12 team draft to end the day. They also might as well get the most bang out of their buck for the already spent hotel and travel fees.

C'mon Juprinka, Dobies, Edelman, Gekko....let's hear from you Greenberg, Ante, Duponte, Martino, Perlmutter....whattayasay Gillis, Dettera, Bendar, and Ice Cream Man? And all the other great east coast players not yet mentioned that will be there that afternoon, let's go, jump in. And Massotto can enter too!!!

Let's fill this bad boy up.

PS.....Joe, the 12-teamers are your Baby. If you have to fly to NYC to help fill this bad boy up, I'll expect you to buy a ticket on Southwest post haste. ;)

I guess if you can't steal the spotlight by signing up last, makes sense that you would grab
the first spot and then call everybody out Glen! ;)

Hope you don't scare everybody away. You know "The Mouth" has already crossed this league
off of his list. Coward that he is.

Ha my friend!! :D

Will you be making NYC this year Ken? If so, looking forward to seeing you and Chip again (but in another league)!!!

PS....Massotto needs to sign up for this league so he can prove his greatness by winning in multiple formats.... (wait, has he won in any format yet)?

Hey Glenn, I am 99.8% sure I am skipping the 12 team Primetime draft this season, still tick-off after last season last week collapse. Don't like the 12 teamers and with the price increase I am trying to do what you try to do and never succeed, Lowering my league count for a season. Plus I have my home league auction early the next morning, So you can win this league this year, But you have no chance against me in the Super Auction Friday night. thanks for the donation :D :o Roy (The Ice Cream Man)

Glen:

Right now, only signed up for Vegas on the second weekend. Chip is in College, so he won't
be joining me out West this time around.

We are considering our options in NYC for Friday and Saturday, but Sunday is out because
of the work schedule. Shocked that people haven't registered for the Primetime's in NYC. As we draw
closer it is actually going to be THE BEST VALUE for the player, without question. Hoping to find a
way to participate - I'm quite sure our focus this year will be on the 12 team leagues.

I give Massotto his props, he beat me and 13 other solid players in the MTM Super League
last season. However, you know what they say - anybody can get lucky once. Let's see if the Mouth
can roar a second time. I'd bet against.

Shandler Forum is also a go on March 8th. Hope to see you there if you make the trip. Good Luck
GL.

Hi Glenn - I'll still be drafting in NYC Saturday night but for the Super. (JOIN GUYS SPOTS STILL OPEN)
I'm also only doing 15 team leagues going forward. With multiple entries I like to keep the free agent pools consistent. Best of luck and hopefully we meet up in another league.

Roy finished 12th overall in the Primetime last year. No wonder he doesn't like the 12-teamers!!!

Kudos to Glenn for trying to fill this Saturday Night Primetime in the Big Apple. Let's do it.

Glenn,

I haven't decided what I'm doing yet as far as any of my main event leagues go but the 12 team format has never had any legs in NY they had to use phone hookups last year to fill the 1 league we did if you remember, I'm not sure if they will fill a league or not. Like Roy said raising the entry to compete with the 15 teamer takes more coin out of all our pockets, in the end the ROI will probably be to good to pass up on but I need to see how it plays out first.

Correct, history has shown that New York has not jumped in strongly for the 12-team live draft when it was at $500 or $1,000. We'll see if the $100,000 grand prize helps us get some traction with this format because the lower prices didn't get it done, especially in New York. If $100,000 doesn't work, then Joe Berg was wrong about this!!! :o We hope this works and it's good to see leagues filling up in Las Vegas on that Second Weekend on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I hope we host multiple leagues at the same time out there.

But we also hope New York owners think about doing the doubleheader as well or returning on Sunday for a Primetime. Like you say, the ROI could be good there this year, but it was also good last year when we finished with only 228 teams.

I get it Guys, I do. To be totally honest, I'm not a huge fan of the 12-team format when compared to the 15-teamers either. We all know those who "claim" that the 15-teamers are a tougher "draft" while the 12-teamers are tougher "in-season management" are just trying to make themselves feel better and put the 12-team format on a similar plane of difficulty as the 15-team. We all know it's just rhetoric. Any format that you can find a Mike Trout or Bryan Harper on the waiver wire week 5 is not a tougher in-season management. :? It allows for an easier recovery from a bad draft and/or bad in-season decisions prior and therefore levels the playing field. The 15-teamers are the true test of a Champion. You pay for your mistakes there. (Sorry Joe, just the way I see it :P ).

Still, take a look at the ROI. Yes, the Main Event is the MAIN EVENT. However, there you will be trying to win an Overall Championship against the 400+ best fantasy players in the world. The 12-team main event (yes, I purposely used lower case), will have nowhere near that many entries, yet the same Grand Prize. And while the entry fee was raised, it's still $100 less than the Main, has a similar 1st place league prize and the exact same Overall prize. And instead of 400 of the best fantasy players in the world, you'll be playing against 200 graduates of the Online Championships who couldn't hack the 15-teamers (again, sorry Joe :P ). :D

Let's also face it. As Massotto would say it, we're the East Coast, we're NYC. We are the best drafters in the world. The winner of this league is almost assuredly going to win the Overall. It's pretty much a given as I see it. 8-)

As Ken stated so eloquently, why keep banging your head against the best in the hardest format (Supers included in this statement Jason) when such an easy ROI is readily available for the taking. :D

PS....And if Massotto joins this league, the ROI even grows. A one out of eleven shot at the league and likely $100K Overall. You don't get a much better ROI than that. (By the way Ken, don't think I haven't heard the rumors of Massotto having some Spearmint Rhino video on Juprinka, you, some of the others in the MtM that he "used" to help him take down that league. :? )

PSS....Yeah Roy, another year for me of failing to cut down on my leagues. Addiction's a bitch. Looking forward to the challenge of the NYC Auction Super. No doubt an intimidating task. However, I did take down the Ultimate Auction last year in Vegas, so I figured maybe I'm ready for the Major Leagues as Gekko put it. See both you and Ken at First Pitch in a couple weeks.

Just to clarify the Classic's grand prize is $125,000. The Primetime's is $100,000. So the Classic has the higher prize. But Glenn's other points are spot on. Don't know what the New York guys are so afraid of. :D

I might end up joining. I have to look at the money situation as well, since I committed to Vegas this year again. I don't like the 12 teamers either, but the ROI is going to be good... we will see as the date gets closer.

Not only a great ROI but those dreaming the impossible dream will need a Prime Team to hook up to their Main to cash in the $75000 bonus!

They can also hook it up to the Online Championship and have a shot at TWO $75,000 bonuses.

That ain't too shabby. :)

You guys crack me up, especially you, Lowy. The premiere event of the first weekend in NYC is obviously the MTM Super as you know all too well. If anything, you should be jumping in this one, as you should too, Alan, should you decide that you're willing to stick a crowbar in your wallet for the entrance fee to take on some of the best of the best for the BIG money. I might just stick around for the Prime Time if you guys come on board for the Super, but otherwise, unlike Mr. Lowy, I do not have an unlimited bank roll and need to budget accordingly.

Ok, let me see if I can tackle these together. When I read Glenn's quote I smiled because a few weeks ago I was thinking about going to Chicago if they needed an extra player to keep that city viable. I would be able to tie in a visit with family to Michigan, but I discovered it was the same weekend as Vegas. Someday I would love to make the trip to New York. I think the contingent of characters that do both and make the trek to Vegas has greatly enhanced that experience for everyone. I know it's added another dimension to the Vegas experience.

It got me to thinking that maybe in the future the NFBC offers a Multi City Live Events discount. It would help keep these other locations viable. Expanding upon my thought was why not offer a multi city Live Primetime discount this year to drum up support? You'd have to reward those already signed up but it could introduce a few players to a new location and get the current guys off the ledge.

I'm just thinking out loud here. Greg, you're putting this on me? I believe in setting expectations high and in an earlier thread listed some things that could help promote the primetime in the future. I think your goal should be equal amount of teams in each event, that's not going to happen this season. I also think that 250 teams would be a huge success as some have been driven off by the jump in entry, this will subside.

Now Mr. Lowy you've stated the ease of the 12 team game, it's time for the New York crowd to get in the game. And what the hell is up with the last seasons entire New York crowd bailing on the 12 team super? It was a fluke that I won ;) get your ass back in that game!!

By the way I have my sights on being competitive this year in this thing (main event) that you guys consider the end all.

And you guys with your pedigree should be doing the MTM Super Event as well. I'm surprised with all of the easy money on the table, that you're not in for this one. It's a blast. You should consider it. There's an extra Scores girl in it for you.

Oops! On second thought, not her. I have her reserved for Lowy.

Look at MtM and Joe Money hawking their events on this thread for a little Primetime draft.

Mikey, Joe, unfortunately no can do on either of your Supers. Mikey, I'm already in the NYC Super Auction which runs concurrently to your Super. And Joe, I'm already registered to two other drafts the day of your Super. No way I could do three live drafts in one day, especially with the need to rest up for the two days that follow where a good 90% of my NFBC budget is dedicated. I'm sure they'll both fill soon though without me. I do know both Juprinka and Dobies are free those nights. ;)

Still, my lack of involvement shouldn't stop either of you from taking advantage of the easy money that will be this Primetime. Jump in, the water's fine.

PS to Greg & Tom..... I vote yes for Joe's multi-city discount idea. :D

Mr. Lowy,

You are correct the 12 team super will sell out it doesn't need me selling it. It's just a shame that more of the guys didn't return from last season.

Now, its back to slow draft hell!! I'm stuck in a 2 round per day draft. :x Hard to take after being in one that completed in 10 days. :?

Mikey : Stop being stubborn and move the MTM SUPER to Saturday night after the main, because now you are competing with the big Auction on Friday night that has been around for a long time and is the Premier event in New York. Why you don't do auction is strange because you could yell and scream all night when bidding.  Oh yea you can't think and yell at the same time :o :o
