Werth is a real good fit for the wrong side of a platoon (he hit .303 against LHers and .255 against RHers). The Phils may not stand pat with what they have and go after another right hander who can hit better against the split.

10th sounds about right to me.
I see your point, but how many guys went 20/20 last year with a respectable (.273) average?
Only six. :D Holliday, Hanley, Beltran, Abreu, McLouth, and Werth.

All except McLouth has done it before (i.e. was what we saw Werth's career year?) and all had better BA versus RH pitchers (though Beltran's was only marginally better).

The change of park from Oakland to the White Sox had no effect, just a change in dog houses. Holliday can be traded to SD and still flourish.

Ballpark effect has a big impact on you, thats good, everybodys different. Your posts almost insinuate that Holliday will be playing 162 games on the road this year, that is just not the case.

Holliday's skill set is at a different level than McLouth. With that skill set, I would have taken that bet if Holliday played in Yellowstone Park.

While true that the ballpark effect may knock Holliday from the first round in a few drafts, to elevate another player from third or fourth round status, like McLouth, to pass him is silly, unless you believe in McLouth enough to make him a first round or top of the second selection. I doubt you will be doing that.

We are probably boring the pants off of the rest of the Board with our disagreement. If you'd like to further your arguments, send me a pm. Good post.

Ok, how about 145 games minimum. I can't go any lower than that.

$20 bet, no signature change.

McLouth must beat Holliday in 4 out of 5 categories for me to win.

Do we have a deal?

Deal.

If you knew me you'd know that I would be much more original than that!

145 games, no signature.

Deal it is. I'm sure we'll have atleast one more bet before the season starts.

I think Ryan Howard will hit .265 or higher.....uh oh, here we go again.

What odds would you give me 30 year Old Man Jimmy Rollins steals a career high in 2009?

He just did last year...but I predict even more in 2009...odds???

~Lance I'm not going to touch that one. Prorate his steals last year and he would have had 56. Odds are against him he'll do 47+ in 2009, I wouldn't want to bet either side. I figure you should get atleast 3-1 on your money.

But I like the way you're thinking.

YES Ludwick going late in the 9th round look's like great value.I would be more than happy to have him in this spot.BUT remeber he's 30 year's old and the rule show me twice has to be considered.

Nice rebound candidate. Now, if you could get HIM in the 10th.... :D
You make an excellent point Doughboys, I see what you're saying. The only reason I feel that way about Holliday is that he never once showed dominant skills on the road in any of the 5 seasons of his career.

You could say, well, Peavy has had a one run difference in e.r.a. in his career home/road splits, so does that mean he won't pitch as successfully if he pitches somewhere else. Well no. He, unlike Holliday, has shown in 3 different years (2004, 2005 and 2007 respectively) that he was equally as good on the road as he had been at home. He has proven himself on the road, Holliday has not. I don't expect a major dropoff in Peavy somewhere else, quite contrary I expect a potential spike upwards in wins if he can get some more run support with peripherals that are very similar to him pitching in San Diego.

So I have thought about what you've said and it makes sense for most players. I think it's a great post but does not help your case with Holliday.

With Swisher, BA wise, he clearly will always have a problem with that, I thought he could improve upon it playing in that park, I was wrong. But Swisher can still be a very productive player. He can still hit 30 homers with 100 rbi's and 100 runs I believe, but that average is dreadful at best. I'm not one of those people that thinks, last year he did this so therefore that's all he'll ever be. I think going to a new park, new team, there's an adjustment period for every ballplayer. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad. Jason Giambi was never the same when he went to the Yankees.

So there we have it. I'll try not to bore everyone else with our jibberish over this subject anymore. We both made our points. 2009 will be the test. Good luck to.....McLouth.

Tulo going in the sixth round of two of them and not even by the tenth of another...hmmmmm!

Looks like there is lack of consensus on one of last years hot picks. Wonder what a hot spring will do for him? Right now it looks like folks are ranking him pretty close to Hardy, which may be unfair to Hardy who has a little more power. Still, a good spring and Tulo becomes a "sexy" pick again and Hardy looks a little more like a solid value pick.

He was maybe the worst 2nd round pick ever. And if I learned anything - it was stay the hell away from the sexy pick! I rather be in first with warts.

My best rationalization is that the Rockies are more pissed than me having signed him to that long term deal for big money.

I would take him in the 10th

Mike Jacobs in the fifth round?

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

 Must be an HQ subscriber. He's projected at some quite lofty numbers.
