Ron Shandler To Compete In 2010 NFBC Main Event

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Fri Jan 29, 2010 7:36 am

We're happy to report that Ron Shandler of BaseballHQ.com will be competing in the NFBC Main Event on Saturday, March 27th at Citi Field in New York. Ron is one of the most recognizable players in the industry, a LABR League original member, the founder of Tout Wars, the founder of the Arizona Fall League Symposium, the founder of BaseballHQ that eventually led to BaseballHQ.com, the founder of the First Pitch Forums, founder of the Baseball Forecaster and more. He's won a lot of industry league titles and now his schedule finally allows him to play in the NFBC's main event.

Ron will be drafting with Dave Adler and he has a very cool idea that involves his staff. I'll let him explain that when he wants, but it will definitely lead to some cool content on the BaseballHQ.com site. I'm excited about that.

Even more exciting is that any money won by Ron in the main event will be donated to charity. He's here for the competition and will gladly give his winnings to a good cause. And I KNOW he plans on winning!! :D Awesome on doing that Ron and good luck.

We're honored to have Ron in our competition and I think drafting at his beloved Mets' home field had something to do with it!! :D But honestly with the NFBC hosting this a week later than past years it allows Ron to finish up his First Pitch forums and join us on Draft Day. He's also in New York for the Tout Wars auctions, so this is all working out fine. Welcome to the NFBC family Ron and best of luck in the hunt for this year's $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Some thoughts and questions on this announcement:

1) Maybe Ron should linger at Citi after the draft. The Mets should be looking for a new G.M.

2) 'An American Tail' viewers-

Shandler in New York, Crane in Las Vegas drafting at the same time, 'Somewhere out There' comes to mind

3) Does Ron bring the Forecaster?

4) Does John?

5) Will Gekko copy off him?

6) Will Ron copy off Gekko?

Meek! Meek! I'll show you Meek!!!!

I'm glad Ron finally made the jump. He has always been about 5 years behind the curve. Now he can see whats going on since the ice age. Thats right Ron put the Big toe in the water first. Next year you can dive into the shark tank! :D

Greg, Listen, we are all a bunch of geeks, but getting guys like Michaels and Shandler to enter, you are truly setting yourselves up to become the end-all competition.

BTW are these guys all paying to play?

Would be scenario's at Citi:

The facilitator says it is Shandlers pick, Gekko starts up, " Hey batter, batter, hey batter, batter, hey batter, batter, JOBA!

Ron and Gekko meet outside and strike up a conversation about Joe Blanton. In what seems like minutes to them, players file out, finished with their draft.

BTW are these guys all paying to play? Of course they are paying. What do we look like, care package providers? No way. Everyone in this event is paying and the industry guys have as much to win as anyone else. Ron's schedule with his First Pitch Forums prevented him in the past from playing the NFBC main event and Lawr has paid for FOUR writers each year to represent his site before finally jumping in himself.

As you said, now to be the best you REALLY have to beat the best. This is the place to be for fantasy baseball in 2010 and I think New York is going to be a WILD place to draft. Competition there is getting pretty tough.

I'll come to Vegas next year if you match me by donating all your winnings to charity. Then it's no more about the money. It's about the competition. Mano a mano. What say you?

This is great! Having the top industry guys play turns it up a notch. Ron and Mark in the same league would be something to watch for sure. Make it happen Greg!

"9-1-1 ?

This is John Crane's wife. John has 4 broken ribs. He hasn't been able to sleep in bed for three weeks.

Anyway, he is propped up in the easy chair with the laptop laughing and crying. I can't get him to stop.I know it must be killing him!

He keeps moaning,'Who's stalking who?' and 'The joke's on him, I'm an auction guy!'

Help's on the way, John!"

[/QUOTE]I don't know about the charity bit, I think Walla needs all the wins he can get to recoup his past education. And since he's not a pro competing isn't a tax write-off.

That said, all the sharks (even the NY sharks) will be heading to Vegas this year, so this is the year to prove something in LV. There would be a clamoring to get in if you and Walla happened to be placed in the same league.

This is an easy offer for Walla Walla to accept.

The only thing John has to offer over to charity is W-I-N-N-I-N-G-S.

Nothing from nothing is still nothing! ;)

John, I don't see much risk here for you.

Well played by Ron @ HQ in calling out Walla!

After going DOWN in flames, I can see WALLA seated across from William Shatner for a raw nerve interview. Suddenly, Shatner turns to the camera to introduce our hero: CRANE......JOHN CRANE!
