Greg - good job on getting these up for us to look at.
NOW if you could do another huge favor for the NFBC community - especially all of us who will be doing satellite leagues at MDC - and get them to update their position eligiblities listed on players to match with yours - certainly for the satellites themselves. (I know it's user responsibility but I could certainly see someone who hasn't done many drafts there and dealing with time limit and software issues being momentarily confused and drafting someone like Sammy Sosa as an OF because that is where he is listed)

I'm sure some leagues would allow Sheffield to be OF eligible, while he's not with us.
For the most part in our drafts we held two weeks ago, I thought the designations were pretty solid this year. I know they had a couple that weren't right (Figgins was listed in the OF, for instance), but Geoff was going to correct those. Hopefully they will be very close with us this year. Good suggestion, though.

We currently use 20-game eligibility to determine our position defaults, but there will always be that shady area for those players who didn't make that mark.
As a result, I invite anyone who finds a difference between the NFBC and MDC lists to contact me at: geoff @ mockdraftcentral.com, and I'll do my best to make sure everything is good to go for the satellites later in the year.

Outfielders - NFBC Eligibility List
I'm not sure I understand. Only players who appear on the list are outfield eligible? What about a minor leaguer who is not on there. He has to come up and play a certain number of games to be eligible?
I will be happy to hear from anyone who can clear this up.
Chance favors the prepared mind.

I will be happy to hear from anyone who can clear this up. He would be eligible at the position he played most in the minors, unless he played in the majors in '07 and appeared as a PH/DH more than a defensive position (in which case he would be UT only).

I will be happy to hear from anyone who can clear this up. No, these aren't the only OF eligible players, but we ranked the top 125 for our magazine and I copied and pasted them here. If you have any questions on September callups or minor-leaguers, feel free to ask me about them. But I listed the top OFers to get you started. You can figure out the rest.

~Lance
There never was a pinch-hitting rule. But yes, the eligibility rules are pretty damn clear and nowhere does it say now -- or did it before -- about PH appearances!!

Greg, per your rules section:
Players who played less than 20 games total in the majors last year will be eligible at the position they played the most games at, not including DH or pinch-hitting.
Does this mean if a player DH'd 19 games and played 1 game at 1B, he would be 1B eligible?

No, since DH is a position, they would be eligible at DH only
Not exactly right. There are two sections in the rules for this, one for players who had played less than 20 games in the majors and one who played more than 20 games in the majors. For a September callup, we are allowing him to qualify at the position he played the most games at if he appeared in less than 20 games. But if he played in more than 20 games and DH'd most of the time, then yes he's obviously UT-only.
Here's the two rules that both need to be seen to understand:
b) Players who played less than 20 games total in the majors last year will be eligible at the position they played the most games at, not including DH or pinch-hitting.
e) Players who played 20 or more games in the majors last year and didn't play 20 or more games at one position will be deemed UT-only eligible in 2008 unless otherwise designated by the NFBC Commissioner.

Greg, per your rules section:
quote: Players who played less than 20 games total in the majors last year will be eligible at the position they played the most games at, not including DH or pinch-hitting.
Does this mean if a player DH'd 19 games and played 1 game at 1B, he would be 1B eligible?
So the answer to this would be no, he'd be UT-only. He played 20 games and 19 of them were at DH. Had he played 15-19 total games, then yes he'd have qualified at 1B.

Outfielders - NFBC Eligibility List
In 2007 Joey Votto played 20 or more games in the majors:
17 games at 1B
6 games at OF
3 games at pinch hitter
Normally he'd be DH eligible, but he is listed at 1B because he was designated by the NFBC Commissioner at 1B (see rule "e"), correct? just want to make sure i'm reading it correctly.
e) Players who played 20 or more games in the majors last year and didn't play 20 or more games at one position will be deemed UT-only eligible in 2008 unless otherwise designated by the NFBC Commissioner. The NFBC Commissioner will rule on player eligibility prior to the draft as he deems necessary. Those eligibility lists are final.

What site do you use that actually breaks down games played at a position and games appeared in as a PH?

1B-8
OF-6
DH-13
He's listed as a first baseman here.

Yes, in Votto's case he played 24 games last year during his September callup and 17 were at first base. Consider it a Commissioner's call to give him 1B eligibility as he definitely remains on the list for 1B eligibility.

Grab the Bill James Handbook if you can for 20 bucks (ACTA Publishing, Baseball Info Solutions). It's the best for this. Rototimes.com also breaks down players' games played by position and even lists them by RF, CF and LF.

He's listed as a first baseman here.
I have updated the Garrett Jones eligibility. He has been removed from 1B and is UT-only eligible. He was with the Twins three different times last year, played in 31 games and was UT mainly as he DH'd 12 times, pinch-hit five times and played in the field 14 times. Good catch.
Jones will likely appear at 1B in our second FB issue as we appeal to our mass audience, but our eligibility lists will be accurate here and again for Draft Day.
Greg, this rules seems rather, uh, illogical ... since there are only a handful of players each season that don't qualify at a position couldn't you just assign all such players a position (or DH if that's the case) based on where you expect them to a play?
That would make a lot more sense IMO than having a guy who DH'd 19 times being called a DH, but a guy who DH'd 18 times being called a 1B.
